APC NWC reviews structures, declares party’s readiness for 2027 polls
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that it is prepared for the upcoming 2027 general elections following a comprehensive review of the party’s structures across the nation.
APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, disclosed this information during a news conference on Saturday, concluding a three-day retreat in Maiduguri. He stated that the review examined the party’s framework from the national level down to local government and ward levels, including polling units.
Yilwatda characterized the assessment as yielding a “clean bill of health,” asserting that the NWC views the party as strong and ready for the elections. He revealed that the committee passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and other candidates who emerged from the party’s primary elections.
To address internal differences and enhance party cohesion, Yilwatda indicated that the NWC will intensify reconciliation efforts at various levels. He urged state chapters that have not yet established reconciliation committees to do so, emphasizing that these initiatives are crucial for solidifying the party ahead of the elections.
Yilwatda also stated that the NWC plans to actively engage in campaign activities designed to communicate the policies and programs of the Tinubu administration to the public.
Regarding recent electoral outcomes, he expressed satisfaction with the APC’s performance in off-cycle and by-elections, highlighting victories in Ogun and Delta states—areas where the party had struggled previously. The APC secured four out of five elections held the previous week, with Yilwatda describing the loss in one election as a strong performance nonetheless.
He expressed gratitude to the Borno Government for hosting the retreat and thanked journalists for their coverage. Yilwatda also extended his condolences to the government and citizens of Niger following the tragic death of 37 miners.
