Kano APC dismisses Kwankwaso’s allegation over missing NDC guber candidate’s name

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano has rejected claims made by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso regarding the omission of Aminu Abdussalam-Gwarzo’s name from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) list. Abdussalam-Gwarzo is the candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The APC’s response came in a statement from its Kano State Chairman, Alhaji Umar Haruna-Doguwa. The statement was released to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday.

Haruna-Doguwa characterized Kwankwaso’s allegations as “false” and “baseless,” asserting they are an attempt to blackmail the APC and its governorship candidate, Governor Abba Yusuf. The chairman emphasized that the issue arises from internal conflicts within the NDC itself.

He clarified that neither the APC nor Governor Yusuf are involved in any legal matters concerning the NDC candidate. “The legal case was initiated by members of the NDC against their own party, not by the APC or the Kano State Government,” he stated.

Haruna-Doguwa cautioned that linking the APC or its candidate to the ongoing situation is misleading and diverts attention from the NDC’s internal challenges. He stated that the APC distances itself from the legal action and maintains that it did not sponsor or influence the court proceedings against Abdussalam-Gwarzo.

“The judiciary operates independently, and neither the APC nor its candidate can dictate its processes or outcomes,” he added.

He challenged Senator Kwankwaso to provide credible evidence linking the APC or Governor Yusuf to the matter, rather than spreading allegations that could mislead the public and exacerbate political tensions.

Describing the allegations as an unfounded attempt at political blackmail, Haruna-Doguwa noted the irony of such claims coming from Kwankwaso, who serves as the NDC’s vice-presidential candidate.

Haruna-Doguwa reaffirmed the APC’s dedication to democratic principles and expressed that every eligible candidate is entitled to participate in the 2027 general elections. He welcomed the involvement of opposition parties in the electoral process and asserted that the APC has no intent to undermine any political party or candidate.

The chairman urged the public to disregard any attempts to associate the APC and its governorship candidate with the NDC’s legal issues, reiterating that neither the party nor its candidate played any role in the proceedings affecting the NDC candidate.
