Nigerian Army Arrests Suspected Terrorists, Rescues Kidnapped Victims
ABUJA — Troops of the Nigerian Army, engaged in various internal security operations, have arrested 10 individuals suspected of terrorism and rescued three kidnapping victims across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the North-Central region.
The information was disclosed in an operational report released Wednesday by the army.
In the FCT, as part of Operation MESA, personnel from the 176 Guards Battalion collaborated with a tracking team from the Office of the National Security Adviser. During a routine checkpoint in Abaji, they intercepted and apprehended two suspected terrorists traveling in a commercial vehicle from Asaba to Kaduna. The suspects are currently in custody pending further investigation.
In Benue State, troops conducting patrols under Operation WHIRL STROKE arrested two additional suspects and seized two motorcycles during an operation in the Gwer West Local Government Area. Similarly, in Nasarawa State, six suspected terrorists and drug peddlers were apprehended in the Karshi area of Karu Local Government Area. This action was taken based on actionable intelligence, resulting in the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol, cartridges, and other items. The suspects are also in custody.
The report noted that troops achieved significant advances in anti-kidnapping initiatives in Benue, responding swiftly to distress calls that led kidnappers to abandon their captives. In separate operations, one victim was rescued in Mbakange, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, and two others were freed in Agidi, Konshisha Local Government Area.
The army emphasized its commitment to dismantling criminal networks and enhancing security throughout the nation.
