Niger State Troops Rescue Woman and Children During Anti-Terror Operation
BORGUS, Niger State — Troops participating in Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD successfully rescued a woman and four children during an ambush targeting suspected terrorists in the Borgu Local Government Area, officials reported.
Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama shared details of the operation on X, stating that the ambush took place at approximately 6:45 a.m. on May 10. Troops from the Combat Service and Infantry Brigade XVI, stationed at Forward Operating Base Audu Fari, executed the mission after receiving intelligence about terrorist movements in the region.
According to Makama, the troops set up an ambush at Bakpa Village, anticipating the attempted infiltration of terrorists moving from the Jadua area toward Kainji Lake National Park.
Upon engaging with the terrorists, the suspects fled into the surrounding forest, abandoning their families. The troops subsequently rescued the woman and children who were left behind.
Items recovered from the ambush site included three motorcycles and a mobile phone believed to belong to the fleeing suspects.
The rescued individuals are currently receiving care, while efforts continue to locate the terrorists and restrict their movements in the area. This operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent infiltration around Kainji Lake National Park and neighboring communities.
