Bangladesh Clinches Historic Test Series Victory Over Pakistan

SILHET, Bangladesh — Bangladesh achieved a historic milestone by winning their first home Test series against Pakistan, culminating in a 78-run victory in the second Test on Wednesday.

Taijul Islam was instrumental in this achievement, claiming six wickets and leading the charge for the home side on the final day of the match. Pakistan began the day at 316-7, aiming to chase down a daunting target of 437 runs, but was ultimately bowled out for 328 in the first session.

Mohammad Rizwan played a commendable innings, scoring 94 runs to keep Pakistan’s hopes alive after the team had faced significant challenges, slumping to 162-5 the previous day. Rizwan formed a crucial eighth-wicket partnership of 54 runs with Sajid Khan, who contributed 28 runs.

However, Taijul struck first, dismissing Sajid to mark his 18th Test five-wicket haul. Shortly after, Shoriful Islam caught Rizwan, extinguishing Pakistan’s last significant resistance. Taijul then took the final wicket of Khurram Shahzad, ending the innings with impressive figures of 6-120.

In Pakistan’s first innings, Taijul also showcased his skills, taking 3-67 as Pakistan managed to score 232 runs. Bangladesh’s batting was led by wicketkeeper Litton Das, who scored 126 in their first innings total of 278, while veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim added 137 in the second innings, helping the team reach 390. Other notable contributions came from Mahmudul Hasan Joy (52) and Litton Das (69).

Bangladesh, under the leadership of captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, had previously secured a 104-run victory in the opening Test, marking a successful series with two consecutive wins. This triumph is not only significant as their first home series win against Pakistan but also follows their 2-0 series sweep on Pakistani soil in 2024.
