Bauchi police arrest four over two alleged murder cases, hunt seven fleeing suspects
Bauchi State Police Arrest Four in Connection with Homicide Cases
The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended four suspects linked to two separate homicide cases in the Bauchi metropolis and the Dandango community. Authorities are actively pursuing additional suspects who remain at large.
The arrest was announced in a statement released on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib. He reported that both cases have been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and potential prosecution.
The first incident reportedly occurred on July 25 in Unguwan Kur, a neighborhood in Bauchi. A 45-year-old resident notified police at ‘D’ Division, Dutsen Tanshi, that 21-year-old Al-Amin Hamisu Gidado allegedly, in collaboration with a second suspect, Yahaya Mu’azu, who is currently evading capture, stabbed 25-year-old Zahradeen Dan’Azumi Tanko in the back.
The victim sustained severe injuries and was transported to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Al-Amin Hamisu Gidado is presently in custody, while efforts to locate Yahaya Mu’azu continue.
In a related incident, three suspects were arrested for the alleged killing of 51-year-old Monday Chiroma, as well as the assault of another individual, Yelwa Bango, in the Dandango area. The incident was reported to police at E-Division, Yelwa, on July 21, after residents brought Chiroma’s body to the station.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victims were attacked on the evening of July 20 due to suspicions surrounding their involvement in the alleged bewitching of 20-year-old Jamila Anthony, who subsequently died while receiving medical care at a local hospital.
The identified suspects include Danjuma Anthony, Ayuba Anthony, known as “Babaru,” Christopher Adamu, Peter Monday, also known as “Maimako,” Joshua Christopher, Babangida Monday, Ali Yakubu, Iliya Yakubu, known as “Ashe,” Sati Monday, and Bulus Monday, also referred to as “Gagau.”
Both victims were admitted to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, where Monday Chiroma was confirmed dead, while Yelwa Bango received treatment and was subsequently hospitalized.
The police quickly detained Danjuma Anthony, Ayuba Anthony, and Christopher Adamu, who allegedly confessed to their involvement during interrogations. The police are collaborating with local security officials and community members to apprehend the remaining suspects.
Bauchi State Police Commissioner CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu condemned the killings and urged residents to refrain from vigilante actions. He emphasized the importance of reporting suspicious activities to law enforcement rather than taking matters into their own hands.
“The Bauchi State Police Command strongly condemns these incidents and encourages the public to avoid violence and jungle justice,” Aliyu stated. He reaffirmed the police’s commitment to securing justice for victims while maintaining public safety and peace throughout the state.
Investigations into both homicide cases are ongoing, and all arrested individuals will face charges in court once the inquiries are completed.
