Benue State Official Rescues Alleged Thief from Mob
MUKURDI, Nigeria – Dr. Joseph Har, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Benue State on Internal Security, intervened to prevent a potential tragedy in the High-Level area of Makurdi on Wednesday. He rescued an individual from a mob that had gathered after an alleged theft incident.
The suspect, identified only as David, was reportedly apprehended by a group of youths after he entered a local salon, purportedly to steal a mobile phone and 200 Nigerian naira (approximately $0.50).
As the situation escalated, Dr. Har arrived on the scene and was able to extricate the young man from the mob’s control. Upon questioning, David admitted to the crime and pleaded for leniency.
During the interrogation, David revealed that he is a schoolteacher residing in Gboko. He explained that he had traveled to Makurdi following the school vacation in search of temporary labor employment at the Wurukum flyover construction site. Unfortunately, upon arrival, he found no available job openings. Desperate and without funds or food, he felt trapped in the state capital.
In a compassionate response, Dr. Har contacted Comrade Alexander Fanafa, the General Manager of Benue Links. Both men invited David to Fanafa’s office, where they addressed the situation with a supportive approach. David expressed remorse and promised never to commit such acts again.
In addition to providing guidance, Dr. Har and Comrade Fanafa extended financial assistance to David and arranged for his safe journey back to Gboko.
