American missionary Alex Barbir has urged transparency regarding the alleged drug trafficking ties of Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu. He warned that failure to release pertinent documents could implicate U.S. officials in the ongoing violence in Nigeria.
Barbir made his remarks in a public call for U.S. President Donald Trump to disclose records from a 1990s investigation into a heroin distribution network in the Chicago area, which includes assets reportedly linked to Tinubu.
“Tinubu is a heroin trafficker who forfeited thousands of dollars to the U.S. government. Concealing his files from the public makes officials complicit in the killing of Nigerians,” Barbir stated.
His comments come amid ongoing litigation under the Freedom of Information Act, as various parties seek additional records from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and other U.S. agencies connected to the investigation.
According to reports from DAILY POST, the dispute over these records has sparked renewed public interest in the details surrounding the case and the information held by U.S. authorities.
Additionally, a U.S. lobbying firm has circulated historical documents from the Department of Justice related to the matter among members of the Trump administration and Congress.
Barbir emphasized the need for transparency, asserting that Nigerians have the right to access information regarding allegations tied to a past U.S. investigation of their nation’s political leadership.
