Don Jazzy made me believe talent is unlimited – Tiwa Savage

Tiwa Savage Discusses Transition from R&B to Afrobeats

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage reflected on her transition from R&B to Afrobeats during a recent interview with TVC, recalling the challenges she faced after returning to Nigeria in 2012.

Savage, who began her career overseas as a backup singer for renowned artists such as George Michael and Mary J. Blige, moved back to Nigeria and subsequently signed with Mavin Records. She attributed her successful shift in musical styles to the encouragement of her former label boss, Don Jazzy.

In the interview, Savage shared how Don Jazzy helped expand her artistic vision. “It was difficult for me to transition from R&B to street sounds,” she said. “But when I was at Mavin Records, Don Jazzy opened my mind to so many different things. He made me believe that talent was not limited and that I could do anything if I truly focused on it.”

Savage expressed no regrets about her decision to return to Nigeria and embrace the Afrobeats genre. She emphasized the growth she experienced during this pivotal period in her career.
