Taraba Police Commissioner Urges Officers to Uphold Professional Standards

JALINGO, Nigeria — Moorkwap S. Dongshal, the Police Commissioner in Taraba State, emphasized the importance of professionalism, discipline, and integrity in police conduct during a training event on Tuesday. The remarks followed the conclusion of a specialized training program for police constables focused on weapon handling and tactical maneuvers.

The training aimed to enhance the operational readiness and capacity of officers to effectively respond to growing security challenges nationwide.

Dongshal commended the participants for their dedication throughout the program and urged them to maintain discipline and commitment to their constitutional duties. He stated, “The acquisition of tactical and operational skills must be complemented by sound judgment, respect for human rights, and strict adherence to the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

He stressed the necessity of adhering to the Rules of Engagement and relevant operational guidelines, particularly Force Order 237, during police operations. Dongshal reiterated that the use of force must be lawful, necessary, and proportionate, in line with established regulations governing police conduct.

The commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the Taraba State police command to ongoing personnel development through regular training, in alignment with the directives of Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu. This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance the operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force, aimed at improving crime prevention and maintaining peace and security.

“The training is in line with the Inspector General’s directives for continuous personnel development, ensuring that officers are equipped with the skills and knowledge to fulfill their constitutional responsibilities effectively,” Dongshal stated.

He concluded by reiterating the command’s dedication to providing professional and effective policing services to the people of Taraba State.
