Ebola alert: NCDC issues warning after Kenya confirms imported case

NCDC Issues Alert on Viral Disease Amid Ebola Case in Kenya
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has issued a warning to citizens to remain vigilant and adhere to preventive measures aimed at minimizing the risk of viral disease transmission.
This advisory follows the confirmation of an imported case of Ebola in Kenya, linked to an ongoing outbreak of the Bundibugyo strain in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The NCDC has heightened national surveillance and preparedness efforts in response to this development.
As of October 6, 2026, the NCDC confirmed that no cases of Ebola had been reported in Nigeria. However, the agency is actively assessing the potential risks to the country and is reinforcing its preparedness strategies in collaboration with relevant government bodies and partners.
In its statement, the NCDC emphasized the importance of public health practices, urging individuals to maintain regular hand hygiene by washing hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand sanitizers. The agency also cautioned against direct contact with the blood or bodily fluids of anyone who is ill, as well as with the bodies of individuals who have died from unknown illnesses.
Additionally, the NCDC advised against handling sick or deceased wild animals and warned against consuming raw or inadequately cooked bushmeat.
The agency urged anyone experiencing symptoms indicative of Ebola or who becomes ill following possible exposure to seek immediate medical attention at a recognized healthcare facility.
The NCDC stressed that ongoing vigilance and timely reporting are essential for the prompt detection and management of any potential cases. Ebola is a severe viral disease known to cause serious illnesses and fatalities, primarily transmitted through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected individuals or animals.
