Elderly man hospitalised after hit-and-run crash in Lagos

An elderly man, Muhammad Bello, was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle that left the scene in the Agbowa community along Itoikin Road in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday, prompting a distress call to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, confirmed the incident in a statement released Wednesday. He noted that the agency’s LRT Lion Squad, stationed in Agbowa, was dispatched immediately and arrived within 10 minutes.
Upon their arrival, responders found Bello lying on the roadside, having been hit by the vehicle that fled after the collision. LASEMA paramedics conducted an initial assessment, revealing that Bello had sustained serious injuries, including suspected fractures to both legs. He was subsequently transported to a hospital for further medical treatment.
Oke-Osanyintolu expressed sympathy for Bello and urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, conduct routine vehicle maintenance, and act responsibly toward other road users. He also encouraged the public to report emergencies promptly by calling the toll-free numbers 767 or 112 to ensure timely assistance from emergency responders.
