England Secures Test Series Victory Over Pakistan at Lord’s
LONDON — England has clinched the Test cricket series against Pakistan, achieving a decisive 194-run victory in the second match of the tour at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Sunday.
Facing an ambitious target of 389 runs, Pakistan was dismissed for 194 on the fourth day of play, giving England an insurmountable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Fast bowler Ollie Robinson continued his impressive form, claiming four wickets for 24 runs, adding to his outstanding performance of four for 11 during Pakistan’s first innings, where the team was bowled out for just 110 runs. Saud Shakeel provided some resistance for Pakistan, scoring 97 runs before being dismissed by Josh Tongue, who helped finish off the tail.
This victory marks England’s first multi-match Test series win since their 2-1 triumph in New Zealand over a year ago. The team previously defeated Pakistan by an innings and 103 runs at Headingley last week.
Shakeel’s Efforts Highlight Pakistan’s Struggles
Pakistan’s batting has struggled throughout the series, failing to reach 200 runs in both matches. The visitors were dismissed for 171 and 135 in the first Test, followed by scores of 110 and 194 at Lord’s. Shakeel’s innings of 97 was a bright spot, coming in at a challenging position of 14 for 3. He played aggressively, demonstrating skill with two significant sixes off Tongue.
Despite nearing a personal milestone of 100 runs, Shakeel fell short, failing to become the second Pakistani player to feature on the Lord’s honours boards during this match. “In the batting, we weren’t up to the mark [in the first innings],” said Pakistan captain Babar Azam. “Saud Shakeel showed his class and dedication in the second innings.”
Robinson Shines for England
Although the current England management emphasizes pace in their bowling attack, Robinson has showcased the crucial importance of accuracy and movement. While he does not possess the express speed of teammate Jofra Archer, Robinson’s bowling skills were evident at Lord’s, earning him the player-of-the-match title with figures of 8 for 35 over both innings.
