EPL: Man United’s new signing, Andrey Santos tells Carrick his preferred position

Manchester United’s Andrey Santos Eyes Role as Defensive Midfielder

Manchester United’s summer acquisition Andrey Santos has communicated his preferred position to manager Michael Carrick as the new season approaches. The 22-year-old Brazilian aims to emulate the playing style of compatriot Casemiro, who recently left the club.

Santos joined Manchester United from Chelsea in a transfer valued at approximately £48 million. His arrival comes in the wake of Casemiro’s departure, following the expiration of his contract. To bolster the midfield, United has signed Santos along with Youri Tielemans.

Reflecting on his transition, Santos expressed a desire to follow in Casemiro’s footsteps. “Casemiro for me is like a legend,” he said, according to Centredevils on X. “Now that he’s gone, I’m here to take on that role. I prefer playing deeper, like a number six, to help my teammates both defensively and offensively.”

Casemiro, recognized as one of the leading defensive midfielders of his generation, enjoyed a successful stint with Manchester United after a celebrated career at Real Madrid. During his four years at United, he made 160 appearances, scoring 26 goals and providing 14 assists. At the age of 34, Casemiro has joined Inter Miami in Major League Soccer, reuniting with Lionel Messi.

For Santos, the move to Manchester United presents a significant opportunity to showcase his talents, having had limited playing time at Chelsea with just 47 appearances to his name.
