Governor Approves Conversion of Hospital to Teaching Facility
YOLA, Nigeria — Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has approved the conversion of the Adamawa State Specialist Hospital into the Adamawa State University Teaching Hospital. This action aims to enhance medical education and specialized healthcare delivery within the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Awwal Tukur, announced the approval during the inauguration of the conversion committee. Tukur indicated that the decision was prompted by a request from the university’s management for the establishment of a clinical training facility for medical students in Adamawa.
“This initiative will reduce reliance on teaching hospitals outside our state and will strengthen healthcare services, medical research, and workforce development,” Tukur said.
The Vice Chancellor of Adamawa State University, Prof. Augustine Clement, termed the committee’s inauguration a significant milestone for the institution’s growth.
Members of the newly formed committee are tasked with developing strategies for the transition of the facility into a teaching hospital in preparation for the 2026/2027 academic session.
Both the Chief Medical Director of the Specialist Hospital Yola, Dr. Dauda Wadinga, and the Acting Provost of the Adamawa State College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Professor Michael Misauno, praised the governor’s decision and expressed their commitment to ensuring the project’s successful implementation.
