‘Give us second chance’ – Expelled varsity student begs after viral dance video

A nursing student at Madonna University in Rivers State has appealed for a second chance after being expelled for participating in a TikTok challenge within a teaching hospital. The student, now one of a dozen expelled individuals, expressed her distress over how to explain the situation to her mother after years of academic dedication.
In a video that has gained considerable attention online, she stated, “How do I explain this to my mother? After all these years, how do I explain this to my mother? Give us a second chance.”
The video, part of a trend dubbed “Gen Z nurses,” featured students dancing in various locations, including the hospital’s waiting area and staircase. It was shared in August with the caption, “No fall sick o, na Gen Z full hospital now.”
Madonna University confirmed that the footage was filmed inside its teaching hospital, leading to disciplinary action against the students involved.
The university’s decision has elicited mixed reactions from the public. Some Nigerians supported the expulsion, arguing that nursing students should adhere to professional ethics and refrain from creating entertainment content in a clinical setting. Conversely, others have called for leniency, including the National Association of Nigerian Students, which has urged the university to reconsider its stance.
