I wouldn’t have married Simi if she were SS or AS – Adekunle Gold

Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has shared that his genotype played a significant role in his decision to marry. During a recent episode of the One54 Podcast, he stated that he would not have married his wife, fellow musician Simi, if her genotype had been SS or AS, given his own genotype of SS.

“It doesn’t make sense to bring a child into this world if they are at risk of being sickly,” Adekunle said. He emphasized that knowing his wife’s genotype, which is AA, was a priority when they first started their relationship.

Since publicly revealing his genotype, Adekunle Gold has been an advocate for raising awareness about sickle cell disease. He and Simi were married in January 2019 and are parents to two children.
