IBEDC hails arrest of staff over vandalization of electricity infrastructure in Osun
The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has expressed support for the recent arrest of several individuals suspected of vandalizing electricity infrastructure in Ikirun, Osun State. In a statement, the company confirmed its full cooperation with the Nigeria Police Force, which is currently investigating the incident.
Angela Olanrewaju, the Coordinating Head of Corporate Services at IBEDC, emphasized the company’s dedication to transparency and accountability in protecting vital electricity assets within its service area.
Reports indicate that four IBEDC employees, along with two welders, were apprehended by officials from the Osun State Police Command in connection with the alleged vandalism of the company’s electrical equipment.
IBEDC has stated that it is committed to ensuring a comprehensive, transparent, and impartial investigation. The company also noted that some employees believed to be implicated in the case have been suspended pending the investigation’s results. If found responsible for wrongdoing, these individuals will face appropriate disciplinary measures in line with company policies and regulations.
The company reiterated its zero-tolerance stance toward the vandalism and theft of electricity infrastructure. IBEDC highlighted that such illegal activities not only disrupt service delivery but also pose significant inconveniences for customers and communities served by the company.
According to IBEDC, damage to critical infrastructure can lead to extended power outages and disruptions in service. The company has consistently raised concerns regarding the rising incidents of vandalism within its jurisdiction.
IBEDC has pledged to continue supporting law enforcement and encourages the public, including community leaders and customers, to report any suspicious activities around electricity infrastructure through designated channels.
