Gaza Air Strikes Result in Eight Fatalities and Dozens Injured

Gaza City — Israeli air strikes on Wednesday claimed the lives of at least eight individuals, including two children, aged 10 and 6, according to Palestinian health officials.

The attacks included a strike near a school in Gaza City that resulted in one fatality and injured 12 others. The Israeli military asserted that it targeted militants in Gaza City but acknowledged no knowledge of civilian casualties.

In a separate incident, an air strike hit a tent sheltering displaced persons in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis, leading to the deaths of four individuals, including a 10-year-old child. Later in the day, health officials reported that a six-year-old boy was killed by Israeli gunfire in the Zeitoun neighborhood, and another strike destroyed a vehicle west of the city, bringing the day’s confirmed death toll to at least seven. An additional death was reported later, though details were not immediately available.

The Israeli military did not issue a statement regarding these incidents.

These fatalities occur against the backdrop of a United States-brokered ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hamas in October 2025. While major hostilities have diminished, Israeli operations targeting Palestinians in the region have persisted.

The Gaza Ministry of Health stated that since the ceasefire was implemented, Israeli actions have resulted in at least 1,084 deaths and 3,491 injuries. The latest attacks contribute to a cumulative toll of at least 73,110 deaths and 173,599 injuries in Gaza since the onset of hostilities in October 2023.

Compounding the situation, Israel has reportedly expanded its control over areas of Gaza, now occupying approximately 11 percent beyond the previously established “Yellow Line.” Last week, various United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations cautioned that this territorial expansion jeopardizes the safety of civilians and the efficacy of humanitarian efforts, forcing numerous Palestinian families to evacuate their homes.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to escalate. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported nearly 9,300 cases of chickenpox across more than 130 healthcare facilities, exacerbated by dire living conditions marked by overcrowding and poor hygiene.
