2027: Peter Obi will come third, Atiku second — Afegbua
Edo State Commissioner for Information Kassim Afegbua has predicted that President Bola Tinubu will secure victory in the 2027 presidential election, with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar finishing second and Peter Obi in third place.
Afegbua shared his analysis of the leading opposition candidates during an interview on the Naija Unfiltered Podcast. He characterized the upcoming election as a three-candidate race primarily involving Tinubu, Abubakar, and Obi, while dismissing the prospects of other challengers.
“It’s a three-horse race,” Afegbua asserted, expressing skepticism about the candidacy of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who is seeking the presidency under the Advanced Peoples Movement (APM).
“Where is APM in Nigeria? Where is Makinde? Why is he grandstanding?” Afegbua questioned. He further stated, “What’s that? Is that arrogance of power, or do you just feel the need to make some noise?”
He similarly dismissed other opposition candidates, including Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress, labeling them as “rabble rousers.”
“All the other names you’ve called are filling the gap. They don’t exist in the equation of potential candidates who can spring a surprise,” he said, reiterating that Tinubu would finish first, with Abubakar and Obi following behind.
Afegbua attributed his projections to statistical analysis, research, and an assessment of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its electoral dynamics.
“The statistics massing around favor this conclusion. It is based on empirical analysis, research, and investigation,” he explained.
While he acknowledged that the APC has identified weaknesses in certain regions, he indicated that the party is actively addressing these issues ahead of the elections.
“We know where our weaknesses are as a party, and we also know the states where we are not going to do well. Things may change because we are putting certain machinery in place. The APC is very solid,” Afegbua added.
