‘It was difficult to buy drugs’ – Amaechi blames Tinubu’s policies on mother’s death

Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has attributed the death of his mother to the policies implemented under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, citing the rising cost of medications that hindered his family’s ability to provide adequate care.

Amaechi, the vice-presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), expressed these sentiments during an interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today,” which aired on Friday. He claimed that his mother had been in good health prior to Tinubu taking office but faced increasing challenges as the cost of medications escalated.

“Policies are killing people. I’ve lost my mother,” Amaechi stated.

During the interview, he lamented the premature passing of his mother, questioning why she could not live to an age comparable to that of other individuals he described as being in their 90s. “Before Tinubu, my mother was healthy. Suddenly, by the time Tinubu came, it was difficult to buy drugs for my mother,” he remarked.

He further pointed to broader implications of the economic situation, noting that many families are facing similar struggles. “The National Bureau of Statistics reported that last quarter, we spent N200 billion importing drugs, and 40 percent of finished goods are imported,” he added.
