2027: Sowore slams NDC, accuses Obi of renting party every election

Sowore Criticizes NDC and Obi Ahead of 2027 Election

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), has openly criticized the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Sowore accused the NDC of exploiting the political landscape and accused Obi of “renting” political parties during election cycles.

In a statement shared on the social media platform X, Sowore claimed that Obi’s political maneuvers are not intended to promote real change for Nigerians, but rather to assist the ruling establishment in deflecting public dissatisfaction and evading accountability as the 2027 general election approaches.

Sowore alleged that NDC leaders profited significantly from the political process, claiming they accrued ₦9 billion from the sale of nomination forms while managing party operations from their residences. “The same opportunists and packaged political frauds who made ₦9 billion from selling nomination forms while running a political party from their living rooms,” he wrote, emphasizing his criticism of the NDC.

He described Obi as an “unprincipled politician,” accusing him of frequently switching political affiliations without genuinely challenging the existing power structures. “This is the problem with unprincipled politicians like Peter Obi, who rent political parties every election season, not to liberate Nigerians, but to divert public anger and evade the revolutionary consequences of their actions,” Sowore said.

Sowore also targeted Obi’s supporters, suggesting they attempt to discredit critics and distract the public from Nigeria’s deep-rooted social and political issues. He specifically named Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and Abia State Governor Alex Otti as figures allegedly promoting narratives that detract from these concerns.

“But we cannot be fooled,” Sowore asserted, contending that the politicians he criticized are hindering what he described as the liberation of Nigerians. He accused Obi and his associates of not genuinely opposing President Tinubu’s administration, claiming their goal is to manage dissent rather than mount a substantial challenge to the government.

“They don’t oppose Tinubu; they simply don’t want anyone to oppose him strongly enough to bring his disastrous reign to an end. Their politics is about managing opposition, not confronting the system,” he said.

Sowore also referenced a comment by Datti Baba-Ahmed, Obi’s former running mate in the 2023 presidential election, who referred to Tinubu as their “favourite uncle.”

Obi, who previously ran for president under the Labour Party in 2023, has transitioned to the NDC as he prepares for the upcoming election in 2027.
