Kano State Declares Public Holiday for New Islamic Year
KANO, Nigeria — The Kano State Government has announced that Tuesday will be a public holiday in observance of the new Islamic year, 1448 After Hijrah (AH).
In a press release issued on Monday, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, stated that the work-free day will allow residents to celebrate the significance of the Islamic lunar new year.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf extended his congratulations to Muslims in Kano and nationwide for the beginning of the new year, which commences with the sighting of the crescent moon of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic calendar.
He urged the Muslim community and the general public to take this time for reflection and self-evaluation.
“The Governor calls on the people of the state and the Muslim Ummah to reflect on their actions over the past year and to use the occasion to offer special prayers for peace, unity, and prosperity for the state and the country at large,” the statement said.
Furthermore, the governor encouraged citizens to pray for ongoing peace, unity, and economic progress in Kano State and Nigeria, particularly amid current challenges.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to policies aimed at enhancing living standards, developing infrastructure, and bolstering social welfare.
