Kano State Police Recover Stolen Vehicles, Arrest Suspect
The Kano State Police Command has successfully recovered two stolen vehicles in separate operations and apprehended one suspect, according to a statement released on Wednesday.
The recoveries were conducted by the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) as part of ongoing efforts in intelligence-led and community-centered policing under Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
In the first incident, officers recovered a white Toyota Hilux, which was reported stolen from Hotoro Quarters. Zaiyyad Farouk alerted the police late Sunday night after discovering that his vehicle, parked along Lamido Crescent in the Tarauni Local Government Area, had been taken by unknown individuals.
Following the report, SIS operatives acted quickly. Their efforts led to the recovery of the vehicle in the possession of a suspect identified as Abdussalam Salisu from Kurna Asabe Quarters, Kano. The police confirmed that the Toyota Hilux has been returned to Farouk after proper verification. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the theft.
In a second case, the police recovered a black Hyundai Elantra believed to have been stolen in Abuja and linked to an interstate theft syndicate. Intelligence received on July 10 indicated that the vehicle was taken from Annur Mosque in Abuja.
Upon tracking the suspects to Dutse Local Government Area in Jigawa State, the SIS conducted a coordinated operation on July 22. The suspects fled upon seeing the officers, abandoning the vehicle behind them. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect is part of a criminal group that has been operating across Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano states.
The Hyundai Elantra has been processed by the police and will be returned to its rightful owner in Abuja. Authorities have intensified their efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and individuals involved in receiving stolen vehicles, aiming to dismantle the criminal network.
