Kwara OPC leader on mission to deliver ransom abducted by bandits

OPC Leader Abducted While Delivering Ransom in Kwara State

Kwara State — Bayo Fabiyi, a leading figure in the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), was abducted by armed bandits on Monday while attempting to deliver a ransom of 30 million naira and other items for the release of another kidnapping victim in Oko-Irese, located within the Irepodun Local Government Area.

The incident was confirmed by Comrade Zubair Olaitan, coordinator of the Kwara South Joint Security Network, who spoke to reporters on Tuesday. He commended local security forces for their ongoing efforts to combat banditry along the borders of Kwara and Kogi, while also emphasizing the necessity for improved logistical support.

An OPC member corroborated the abduction and expressed optimism that Fabiyi would soon be freed. The bandits had requested not only the ransom but also five motorcycles and three bags of rice in exchange for the victim’s release.

According to sources, prior to embarking on this mission, Fabiyi had consulted a female spiritualist affiliated with the OPC, who reportedly warned him against proceeding, citing a vision of impending danger.

“The OPC woman cautioned Fabiyi not to go, as she foresaw him being captured by armed bandits,” a source stated. “Despite the warning, he chose to continue with the mission, and we were unaware of the abduction until it occurred.”

State Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi, when contacted for comment, stated he was unaware of the kidnapping incident.
