Governor Seyi Makinde to Declare Presidential Ambition on May 14
By Adeola Badru
IBADAN, Nigeria — Governor Seyi Makinde is set to officially announce his presidential ambitions on May 14 at a political rally to be held at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan.
The event, named the “Unity Mega Rally Ibadan 2026,” will mark the launch of Makinde’s anticipated 2027 presidential campaign and the unveiling of a political alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM). This coalition also includes candidates aligned with the efforts led by Makinde and his supporters.
Sources close to the governor have indicated that preparations for the rally are ramping up amid shifts in the political landscape of Oyo State and the South-West region. Key grassroots mobilizers and political associates are reportedly making strategic preparations as discussions about a broader political framework continue.
Political analysts suggest that these moves aim to strengthen grassroots support throughout Oyo State and extend Makinde’s influence within national politics.
In recent weeks, conversations among stakeholders have reportedly accelerated due to ongoing internal disputes within the PDP at the national level. This has led several loyalists and political figures to explore alternative political options.
The May 14 rally is expected to draw a wide range of attendees, including political stakeholders, youth groups, community leaders, and traditional supporters from across the country, particularly those who resonate with Makinde’s vision and leadership style.
While Governor Makinde has not yet publicly confirmed his candidacy for the presidency in 2027, support groups and political associates have been actively urging him to enter the race.
