‘Minimum wage person dead already’ — TG Omori laments kidney treatment cost

Nigerian music video director TG Omori has shed light on the exorbitant costs associated with his kidney failure treatment, highlighting the challenges faced by individuals who depend on minimum wage. During an interview on the Afropolitan podcast, aired September 23, 2026, Omori detailed his personal journey with kidney failure and the substantial financial burden of his medical care while he awaits a transplant.

Omori revealed that a single dialysis session can range from N50,000 to N70,000 in some hospitals, while he incurred costs of between N150,000 and N200,000 at a private facility. Patients typically require three sessions each week, leading to total weekly expenses of approximately N500,000 to N600,000.

“Even a minimum-wage worker would be overwhelmed by the cost of just one session,” Omori stated.

He projected that maintaining dialysis for a year while awaiting a transplant could exceed N31 million, not accounting for additional tests, medications, or potential complications. Moreover, he expressed concern that even someone earning N1 million per month could find the financial strain insurmountable.

“It’s automatic; if your monthly salary is one million naira, it won’t suffice,” he said.

Omori’s experience has profoundly altered his perception of financial resources in times of serious illness. He noted, “While money may not buy happiness, it can buy some time.”
