Nigerian Navy hands over five suspected IPOB, ESN members to DSS

Nigerian Navy Transfers Suspects Linked to IPOB to DSS for Investigation
The Nigerian Navy has transferred five individuals suspected of involvement with the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its associated group, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), to the Department of State Services (DSS) in Anambra State for further investigation.
In a statement released by Abiodun Folorunsho, the Naval Director of Information, it was reported that the suspects were apprehended by personnel from the Naval Outpost in Onitsha, stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Amiyi. Their detention followed intelligence that connected them to alleged criminal activities in the Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Preliminary investigations have identified one suspect as the purported coordinator of the group’s operations in the affected communities, while the others are believed to have links to the network. Initial findings have also indicated locations allegedly used for meetings and recruitment.
In accordance with established inter-agency cooperation protocols, the suspects were handed over to the DSS for further investigation and appropriate action.
This operation underscores the Nigerian Navy’s ongoing commitment to internal security and efforts to combat criminal activity and threats to national security in joint operational areas. The Navy remains dedicated to collaborating with relevant agencies to ensure peace, stability, and the protection of lives and property across the nation.
