Amotekun busts foreigners’ criminal network in Ondo
The Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, has apprehended 21 foreign nationals suspected of involvement in criminal activities. The agency reported that these individuals, primarily from neighboring West African countries, were posing as phone sellers and repairers while residing in accommodations inconsistent with their economic circumstances.
Amotekun Commander Adetunji Adeleye revealed the arrests during a press conference where he also presented a total of 53 suspects tied to various offenses, including kidnapping, murder, cattle rustling, and diesel theft.
Adeleye emphasized that the foreign suspects were operating with assistance from local accomplices, including landlords who provided housing without proper documentation. He noted that all 21 suspects have been profiled and will be referred to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation and potential prosecution.
In a separate incident, four individuals were arrested in Akure North Local Government Area for orchestrating a fake kidnapping and disseminating false information on social media. Adeleye explained that initial reports indicated a kidnapping had taken place. However, upon investigation, officers found that one of the individuals reporting the incident was an accomplice, who later led security personnel to the location where the alleged victim was hiding.
Adeleye confirmed that the incident was fabricated to incite fear and extort money.
