NIS passport: Venue owner allegedly denies Nigerians entry over unpaid fees in Manchester

Nigerians in Manchester faced obstacles on Monday when they were denied entry to a venue where the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) was scheduled to process passport applications. The Lebanese owner of the venue claimed that he had not been compensated for the use of the space.

Reports from attendees on social media platform X indicate that the owner refused to allow applicants inside, citing concerns regarding security. The NIS had organized this event to assist Nigerians in the UK with outstanding passport applications and renewals.

Several applicants reported that only a limited number of people were processed hours after the event began. One individual shared on X that the venue owner informed those waiting that he had not received payment and noted the absence of both staff and security.

“He said he hasn’t been paid, no staff, no security. Three people attended to in one hour,” the applicant stated.

UK police were called to the scene in response to the situation.

As of this report, the NIS had not commented on the alleged payment dispute or addressed the issues related to security and staffing at the venue.
