NNPC denies allegations of selling equipment from refinery

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has dismissed reports claiming that it is selling scrap materials and equipment from its refineries as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Friday, Chief Corporate Communications Officer Andy Odeh clarified that the company has not issued any requests for bids, tenders, or expressions of interest for the sale of scrap materials or refinery components.

“The company wishes to categorically state that this information is untrue,” Odeh said. He emphasized that NNPC Ltd. has not approved any sale of scrap materials, refinery components, or items from its inventory.

Odeh also noted that some individuals are falsely posing as representatives or agents of NNPC Ltd., claiming to facilitate the sale of scrap metals or refinery equipment. He warned that these individuals are not authorized by the company and are attempting to mislead the public.

To counter these misleading claims, Odeh urged the public, along with corporate organizations and industry stakeholders, to disregard any solicitations related to sales of this nature and to exercise caution in their dealings.

For clarity, he reiterated that NNPC Ltd. is not conducting any unauthorized sales of scrap metals, equipment, or refinery components from its facilities. Any legitimate asset disposal will be carried out through established and transparent processes, communicated through official channels and in compliance with applicable regulations.

He encouraged anyone encountering such claims to report the individuals or entities to law enforcement authorities.

“NNPC Limited remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the responsible management of national energy assets,” Odeh added.
