ABUJA — Nentawe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), affirmed that the ongoing sale of expression of interest and nomination forms exemplifies the party’s commitment to transparency and internal democracy.
In a statement made Wednesday after visiting the process at the Abuja Continental Hotel, Yilwatda highlighted that aspirants are actively purchasing forms to vie for various positions, including those currently held by sitting governors, senators, and President Bola Tinubu.
“Individuals are picking forms to contest at all levels, including the presidency,” Yilwatda said. “This demonstrates the level of internal democracy within our party. The participation we are seeing indicates that the APC remains widely accepted.”
He reported that the process has proceeded smoothly, with no complaints from participants. Banks, party officials, and administrative units involved in the sale have been performing their roles effectively.
“The banks are processing payments, our staff are handling clearances, and receipts are being issued without issues,” he stated. “We have also monitored feedback channels, including social media, and have not observed any complaints.”
Yilwatda characterized the exercise as an indication of the party’s organizational capabilities and expressed confidence that upcoming stages, including the nomination process, would continue without complications. He emphasized that wide participation aligns with the APC’s founding principles, particularly the focus on inclusion.
“Inclusion is central to our party, and what we are witnessing here reflects that commitment,” he added.
When asked about the possibility of extending the deadline for purchasing forms, Yilwatda indicated that no decision has been made. Any alteration would follow due process and require approval from the party’s National Working Committee.
“For now, there is no extension. Any decision on that will be made by the appropriate party organ,” he stated.
