NSCDC arrests suspect over Great Green Wall fence vandalism in Jigawa

Jigawa NSCDC Arrests Man for Vandalizing Forest Reserve Fencing

Operatives from the Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested a 46-year-old man for allegedly vandalizing a perimeter fence at the Great Green Wall within the Gabasmari Forest Reserve, located in the Birniwa Local Government Area.

The suspect, Abdullahi Muhammad, a resident of Kasaaga Village in the Guri Local Government Area, was apprehended on Saturday around 11:50 a.m. This arrest was made following intelligence reports concerning the vandalism of government property throughout the state. Recent incidents have involved the removal of roofing sheets, doors, and windows from various government facilities.

ASC Badruddeen Tijjani, the Public Relations Officer for the NSCDC Jigawa State Command, indicated that the successful operation resulted from credible information and the collaboration of local farmer Amadu and Zakar Yau Muhammad, the Birniwa Zonal Forestry Officer.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Muhammad vandalized approximately 10 meters of fencing wire that protects the Gabasmari Forest Reserve. The damaged fence is part of a major environmental protection project initiated around seven years ago.

CC Muhammad Ingawa, the state commandant, condemned the rising trend of vandalism in the region and warned that offenders would face severe consequences. He emphasized that NSCDC operatives are strategically deployed across various locations to deter criminal activities.
