Ogun APC Aspirant Abayomi Hunye Seeks Justice in Primary Dispute

Abayomi Hunye, a governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, has clarified that his legal challenge to the party’s recent governorship primary results is not an attempt to undermine the party but rather a quest for justice.
In an interview with Channels Television, Hunye expressed his ongoing commitment to the APC, despite the turmoil surrounding the nomination of Senator Solomon Yayi as the party’s candidate. “I am not fighting the party. I am fighting for justice. I have suffered for this party, and I have been with the progressives for about 20 years,” he stated.
Hunye contested the primary process, questioning how he could have received zero votes in an election he participated in. “I participated, I voted, and my people were there. So I am challenging that result,” he said.
He referenced his investment in the party, mentioning that he purchased the necessary nomination and expression-of-interest forms for N50 million and was cleared to run after undergoing screening. “I bought the form. I have the receipt. I was invited for screening, and I was cleared. On the screening list, my number was 52, while Yayi’s number was 53,” he explained.
Hunye criticized the consensus arrangement that led to Yayi’s nomination, asserting that the aspirants were not adequately consulted prior to the decision. “Nobody called me. All the aspirants ought to have been invited to a meeting where the consensus would be explained,” he said, emphasizing that such agreements should be documented.
He dismissed allegations that he was misrepresenting himself as the party’s candidate, stating, “I have never said I am the candidate. I am challenging the result in court.” Hunye indicated he was prepared to accept the court’s decision, underscoring his goal of ensuring fairness within the party. “I want justice. Let the court decide. Whatever the outcome, I will accept it,” he added.
He also cautioned that unresolved issues could exacerbate divisions within the APC as the party approaches the 2027 elections. Hunye urged party leaders to address these grievances to prevent further discord.
