Ago-Iwoye Court Grants Bail to Suspects in Police Assault Case

AGO-IWOYE, Ogun State — An Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court granted bail on Friday to three individuals charged with assaulting police officers and obstructing law enforcement during an incident that occurred last month.

The defendants, identified as Alaba Mulika, 51; Alawode Iyanu, 21; and Temitope Saliu, 29, were arrested following an investigation initiated by Ogun State Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni. The incident in question took place on September 29, 2026.

According to a statement from Police Spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the arrests were made when a team led by ASP Akeredolu Emmanuel intercepted an unregistered Toyota Camry on Fibigbade Street. During the interception, a Toyota Highlander, bearing the registration number JJJ 215 JV, allegedly blocked the Camry’s path on Abobi Street.

The situation escalated into a physical confrontation in which Inspector Abolarinwa Wasiu and Corporal Olubamiro Adeniyi reported being assaulted. It was alleged that Mulika, a suspected drug dealer from Awa-Ijebu, arrived on the scene after the vehicle was stopped and attempted to thwart the officers’ actions.

Babaseyi noted that video footage of the incident circulated on social media and was among the evidence reviewed during the investigation.

The defendants face five charges, including conspiracy, obstruction of police officers, serious assault, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The court set the bail for each suspect at N500,000, requiring two sureties for each. The sureties must provide proof of tax payments and show evidence of property ownership within the jurisdiction, subject to verification by the court registrar.

The case is scheduled to continue on October 12, 2026. Babaseyi urged the public to refrain from confronting law enforcement officers during their official duties and to use appropriate channels for filing complaints.
