Osun SSG arrest: ‘Police have not done very well’ – Laolu Akande

Laolu Akande, a former media aide to ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has raised concerns about the Osun State Police’s lack of detailed communication regarding the recent arrest of Teslim Igbalaye, the Secretary to the Osun State Government.

In an appearance on Channels Television’s “Sunrise Daily,” Akande highlighted growing suspicions stemming from the limited information surrounding the arrest. He underscored the significance of Igbalaye’s position, which has heightened public interest in the case.

On Wednesday, the Osun State Police Command arrested Igbalaye amid an investigation related to alleged vote buying in Osogbo.

Akande criticized the police for failing to provide a comprehensive account of their actions. He specifically called for clarity about the alleged criminal activity involving Igbalaye, noting the gravity of the situation given his rank within the state government.

“The police have not given us sufficient information about their activities in Osun State regarding those arrests, and as a result, there is considerable suspicion about what is occurring,” Akande stated. He urged the police to offer a detailed briefing to the public to address these concerns.

“While he does not have immunity, this is a serious matter. Simply stating that two PVCs were found in his house without elaborating on the implications or ongoing investigations is insufficient. The police in Osun State need to improve their communication,” he added.
