Ado-Ekiti—Ayodele Fayose, former Governor of Ekiti State, has reiterated his support for the re-election of Governor Biodun Oyebanji in the upcoming gubernatorial election scheduled for June 20, 2026.
During the grand finale of Oyebanji’s campaign tour in Ado-Ekiti, Fayose emphasized that members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who previously contributed to the victories of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji, will continue to lend their support in the forthcoming elections, including the general elections in 2027.
Fayose noted the allegiance of a group referred to as “Iruwa Ogiri wa,” pledging their commitment to extend Oyebanji’s administration beyond the next election.
“The current administration has demonstrated a level of governance and political inclusivity that warrants another term in office,” Fayose stated. He underscored his support for Oyebanji despite his PDP affiliation, citing the governor’s effective leadership and performance.
Fayose remarked, “It’s the votes from the PDP that brought Tinubu into power. It’s our votes that brought the current governor in and will bring him in again. We, the Iruwa Ogiriwa, are with you and we will stand by you.”
He further expressed, “I’m not a member of the APC; I’m a member of the PDP, but we want to assure you that this good work must continue. We commend Governor Oyebanji to remain in office until 2030.”
Governor Oyebanji responded by reiterating his commitment to delivering more benefits to the populace following his reelection. He mentioned several infrastructural developments that are in the pipeline for his administration.
The governor underscored the significance of the upcoming election as a barometer for President Tinubu, highlighting a target of 500,000 votes to demonstrate that Ekiti remains a stronghold for his reelection campaign in 2027.
