Peter Obi cannot defeat Tinubu in Lagos again, we are not afraid of him — Sunday Dare

Bola Tinubu Administration Downplays Threat from Peter Obi
The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, has dismissed claims that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), poses a political threat to the current administration. Dare emphasized that the government remains focused on fulfilling its mandate.
In an interview on the Mic On Podcast on Saturday, Dare asserted that the administration is not concerned about Obi’s influence, contending that its performance and policy initiatives have solidified its standing ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“This government is not afraid of Peter Obi. He is not a nightmare to our government,” Dare said. “Maybe before, Peter Obi was seen as a threat, but right now, he is no threat because we stand on the solid ground of performance.”
Dare elaborated that the administration has thoroughly analyzed the nation’s issues and is actively implementing policies and programs designed to address them. “We have been able to interrogate the problems of this country. Decisions are being taken, policies are being unfolded, and we have a scorecard to show,” he added.
He criticized some of Obi’s public statements, suggesting that they often lack clarity. “Maybe you could replace ‘nightmare’ with ‘nuisance’ because some of his reactions are very pedantic. Sometimes you listen to his interviews, and you wonder. When you ask him a question, he often goes in a roundabout direction that does not make sense,” Dare said.
Looking ahead to the 2027 presidential election, Dare expressed confidence that Obi would not replicate his earlier success in Lagos, where he defeated Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election. “Peter Obi defeated President Tinubu in Lagos in 2023. This is 2027; he can’t defeat Tinubu again in Lagos,” he asserted.
