Four Suspected Illegal Miners Killed in Plateau State Shooting

Four suspected illegal miners were found dead after assailants opened fire on their vehicle while returning from a mining site in Ganna Ropp, located in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident occurred around 3:38 a.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2026, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama. Troops from Sector 4 of Operation Enduring Peace responded to reports of the shooting involving an Opel vehicle.

Upon arrival, the troops confirmed that all four occupants had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The victims, returning from a mining operation, were attacked by unidentified gunmen.

Two of the deceased have been identified as the driver, Mallam Sadam, and a man named Umar. The identities of the other two individuals remain unknown at this time.

Personnel from the Keystone Outpost in Ganna Ropp have since evacuated the bodies from the scene for further investigation.

In a bid to apprehend those responsible, security forces have initiated a manhunt for the attackers and are conducting operations in the area.
