Police arrest 17 suspects, recover five motorcycles in Jigawa
The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended 17 individuals across various local government areas on suspicion of theft, shop breaking, cattle rustling, vandalism, and other criminal activities.
In a statement released by Public Relations Officer SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, the police noted that the arrests were made possible through credible intelligence, timely responses, and thorough investigations.
The operations took place in Malam Madori, Gwaram, Garki, Kiyawa, Taura, Birniwa, Dutse, Ringim, Miga, Kazaure, and Roni local government areas.
Authorities reported the recovery of several items during these operations, including five motorcycles, five cows, two goats, one sheep, nine Android smartphones, and a keypad phone. Additionally, police recovered 44 batteries, four SIM cards, a Lenovo laptop, a plasma television, a solar battery, a ceiling fan, cutting pliers, a ring spanner, two pairs of shoes, and parts of vandalized school desks.
Three individuals were also arrested in connection with an armed robbery involving a Boxer motorcycle valued at 1.2 million naira; however, the motorcycle has not yet been recovered.
The police indicated that investigations are ongoing to identify the owners of the recovered property, with plans to return the items to the rightful owners upon verification. Efforts to recover the stolen motorcycle are also in progress.
The apprehended suspects have been identified as Usman Sale, Abubakar Aminu, Musa Sale, Abubakar Bashir, Yau Yahaya, Shaibu Muhammed, Anas Uba, Gali Ibrahim, Shafiu Ilyasu, Haruna Alhaji, Musa Haruna, Basiru Datti, Abdullahi Bello, Usman Adamu, Adamu Sani, Umar Wada, and Salisu Nasiru.
All suspects have been arraigned in court, and the armed robbery case has been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for further investigation.
Commissioner of Police Tijjani Murtala reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and coordinated operations aimed at preventing and addressing criminal activities throughout the state. He cautioned criminals and their accomplices to cease their unlawful actions, emphasizing that offenders will be held accountable to the full extent of the law.
