Kano State Police Arrest 19 Suspected Drug Dealers, Seize Illicit Substances
KANO, Nigeria — The Kano State Police Command has apprehended 19 individuals suspected of drug trafficking and confiscated thousands of sachets, tablets, and wraps of illegal drugs during operations conducted throughout August 2026.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori disclosed these developments on Monday during a press briefing at the Police Headquarters in Bompai, Kano. He reported that the arrests and drug recoveries stemmed from intelligence-led operations executed by various units of the command.
Among the items recovered, authorities seized 17,684 sachets of suspected illicit drugs, including 17,070 sachets of suspected Tramadol, and 614 wraps of suspected Indian hemp. Additionally, Bakori stated that the operation yielded 49 sachets, three cartons, and 18 packs of suspected Diazepam; 90 sachets of suspected Pregabalin; and 210 suspected Exol tablets.
The police also identified and recovered quantities of suspected methamphetamine, commonly referred to as “Ice,” along with other controlled substances.
One notable seizure occurred on August 25, when officers from the Rijiyar Zaki Police Division intercepted a Volkswagen Golf vehicle at Tudun Yola, Bajallabe Quarters. Acting on a tip from the Nigeria Unity and Stability Corps, police found approximately 13,837 sachets of suspected Tramadol believed to be in transit from Abuja intended for distribution in Kano.
Further investigation led police to Rimin Auzinawa Quarters, where they recovered five additional cartons of suspected Tramadol, three cartons of suspected Diazepam, and other illicit drugs. A female suspect was arrested in connection with the case, and police are pursuing additional suspects.
On August 14, officers from the Gezawa Division detained seven individuals at Gunduwawa Village, recovering 614 wraps of suspected Cannabis sativa. Additionally, on August 19, the Anti-Kidnapping Squad arrested a group of alleged drug dealers in Rijiyar Lemo, seizing suspected Diazepam, Pregabalin, and Exol tablets.
In another operation on August 11, police from the Panshekara Division arrested 11 suspects, recovering various drugs, including Pregabalin, Diazepam, Exol tablets, and a substantial quantity of suspected Indian hemp.
Bakori affirmed the command’s commitment to intensifying efforts against criminal activities, particularly drug distribution. He urged the community to cooperate with law enforcement by providing timely and reliable information to aid in crime prevention and the arrest of offenders.
The Commissioner noted a general decline in crime across major areas of Kano Metropolis, attributing this improvement to sustained patrols, intelligence gathering, community engagement, and targeted operations. From August 1 to August 31, the command reported a total of 244 arrests for various serious offenses, including suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, motor vehicle thieves, and drug traffickers.
