Police arrest security guard for shooting resident in Oyo estate


IBADAN, Nigeria – Authorities have apprehended a security guard in connection with the shooting of a resident in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

Olayinka Ayanlade, the Public Relations Officer for the Oyo State Police Command, announced the arrest in a statement released on Wednesday. The suspect, identified as 49-year-old Oladapo Felix, allegedly shot the resident at Zion Estate in the Elewuro, Akobo area of Ibadan.

According to Ayanlade, police recovered four locally made single-barrel guns and a machete from Felix’s workplace.

The statement detailed that the victim, who identified himself as a resident of the estate, was shot despite his attempts to clarify his identity to the security guard.

Following the incident, officers from the Akobo Division responded promptly, leading to Felix’s arrest at the scene. The victim is currently receiving medical care and is reported to be responding to treatment.

Investigators are continuing to explore the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including events leading up to the use of the firearm.
