Taraba Police Arrest Suspect for Impersonation and Fraud
The Taraba State Police Command has arrested a suspect accused of impersonating the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the governor and defrauding members of the public. The arrest followed a complaint received on May 12, 2026, from the ADC regarding individuals allegedly misusing his name and office to deceive local politicians and residents.
According to a statement from police spokesperson ASP Victor Mshelizah, an immediate investigation was launched after the police received credible intelligence about the suspect’s fraudulent activities.
The suspect, identified as Seth Samuel Sule of Magami Quarters in Jalingo, was apprehended in connection with the case. Police investigations revealed that Sule allegedly used a cell phone number to impersonate the governor’s ADC from late April to early May 2026.
During interrogation, Sule reportedly confessed to defrauding a victim of 1.32 million Naira by falsely offering assistance in securing a ticket for the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Federal House of Representatives.
The suspect acknowledged that his claims were fabricated and intended solely for financial gain. The police stated that investigations are ongoing and that Sule will be charged in court upon completion of their inquiry.
Authorities have advised the public to remain vigilant against impersonators posing as government officials or associates of public office holders. Citizens are urged to verify political claims and sensitive transactions through official channels prior to making any payments or commitments.
Commissioner of Police Morkwap Sebastian Dongshal reiterated the command’s dedication to combatting fraud and other criminal activities throughout Taraba State.
