Police arrest suspect, recover N2.26m stolen roofing sheets in Bauchi

Bauchi State Police Arrest 35-Year-Old for Theft of Roofing Materials

The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a 35-year-old suspect and recovered stolen roofing materials valued at 2.26 million naira after a theft incident in Azare, located in the Katagum Local Government Area.

According to police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib, the arrest was made possible through a combination of intelligence-led policing and routine patrols. The investigation began when a 35-year-old shop owner from Gandunwambai, Azare, reported a break-in at his store on Tuesday. The thief reportedly used a master key to enter and stole 460 meters of Stonecut roofing sheets along Kano Road.

Responding swiftly to the report, detectives from the Azare Police Division were deployed to the scene. Acting on reliable intelligence, they intercepted the stolen materials on the Azare-Jama’are Road.

The suspect, identified as Muktari Rufa’i, was arrested during the operation, and the recovered roofing sheets were valued at 2,260,000 naira. Habib noted that during interrogation, Rufa’i confessed and implicated an accomplice, Evra Pizo, who is currently at large. Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend him.

The arrested suspect is presently in custody at the Azare Division, and the case will be forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution.

Bauchi State Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu commended the Divisional Police Officer and officers of the Azare Division for their prompt actions. He encouraged community members to continue providing timely and credible information to support law enforcement efforts.
