Oyo State Police Arrest Three in Connection with Infrastructure Vandalism
OYO STATE, Nigeria — The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended three suspects linked to the vandalism of critical infrastructure valued at 200 million naira.
In a statement released Wednesday, Public Relations Officer Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed the arrests, which occurred in the Gambari area of Orile-Igbon.
The suspects, identified as Waheed Ayinde, 54, Muhammed Sani, 27, and Hassan Ibrahim, 22, were taken into custody during an operation aimed at disrupting the illegal movement of vandalized railway tracks.
Ayanlade noted that the arrests were made possible by a tip-off from a vigilant member of the community. Acting on credible information, operatives from the Command Monitoring Unit mobilized to the specified area on July 14, 2026, at approximately 1:45 p.m., where they intercepted the suspects before the stolen materials could be transported to their intended destination.
During the operation, authorities recovered stolen railway tracks estimated to be worth 200 million naira, as well as a HOWO truck with registration number CAL 972 XA, allegedly used for transporting the stolen items.
The Oyo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating economic sabotage and the vandalism of national infrastructure.
