Police arrest two over alleged impersonation of soldiers, car theft In Niger
NIGER, Nigeria — The Niger State Police Command has detained two men for allegedly impersonating military personnel and stealing a vehicle, along with other valuables, in the Tungan-Mallam area of the state.
The suspects have been identified as Ogbonna David, 34, and Chidiebere Okonkwo, 30. According to a statement from the police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the arrests took place on September 20, 2026, when officers intercepted a Mazda vehicle believed to be stolen.
During a search of the vehicle, law enforcement officials discovered military-related equipment, including three camouflage uniforms, a pair of military boots, a green beret, and passport photographs of a military officer. Additional items recovered included four solar batteries, mobile phones, and various other valuables.
The police reported that two additional suspects, one of whom is believed to be an active soldier, fled the scene during the operation and are currently being sought by authorities. The two arrested individuals have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation.
