Anambra Police Arrest Two Suspects Linked to Kidnapping
The Anambra State Police Command announced the arrest of two individuals connected to recent kidnapping incidents in the region. The arrests were made following an operation conducted by the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu, according to a statement released by Police Public Relations Officer Tochukwu Ikenga on Saturday.
Ikenga reported that one suspect, identified as Dauda Mohamed, was apprehended after police acted on credible intelligence. During interrogation, Mohamed allegedly admitted to being a member of a notorious kidnapping syndicate based in Kogi State and to participating in several abductions.
The police spokesperson also identified another suspect, Umar Ali, as the leader of the kidnapping gang. Ali is accused of coordinating logistics and supplying weapons for the group. Additionally, Mohamed mentioned other gang members, Usman and Gongola, who remain at large.
Investigators linked Mohamed to a specific kidnapping case involving a victim abducted from Divine Heritage Lodge in Ukwulu, Dunukofia Local Government Area. According to police reports, armed assailants emerged from a nearby unfinished building, fired multiple shots, and took the victim into a nearby bush, subsequently demanding a ransom of ₦30 million.
