Zamfara Police Rescue Five Abducted Travelers

ZAMFARA, Nigeria — Authorities from the Zamfara State Police Command successfully rescued five travelers abducted by suspected bandits on the Anka-Bukkuyum Road. The operation was executed swiftly following a distress call received on June 10.

According to police spokesperson DSP Yazid Abubakar, armed bandits had blocked the highway and intercepted commuters, leading to the kidnapping. Following the alert, personnel from the Anti-Violent Crime Response Unit mobilized for a rescue mission, pursuing the attackers into nearby forested areas.

During the operation, police engaged the fleeing bandits in a gunfight, which compelled the criminals to abandon their captives and escape, reportedly sustaining injuries from gunfire.

All five individuals were rescued unharmed, and two motorcycles, believed to have been utilized by the assailants, were recovered at the scene.

The police reiterated their commitment to addressing insecurity in the region and encouraged residents to share information that could aid law enforcement efforts against criminal activities.
