Police rescue unconscious man allegedly under drug influence in Anambra
AWKA, Nigeria — An unidentified middle-aged man was rescued by operatives of the Anambra State Police Command after he was found unconscious in Awka, the state capital, on Thursday. The man was reportedly under the influence of hard drugs.
State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, provided details in a Facebook statement. Officers attached to B Division discovered the man during a routine patrol around Oby Okoli Avenue near the UNIZIK Temporary Site on July 15, 2026.
The victim was lying by the roadside and exhibited no visible injuries or signs of violence. Police officials transported him to the Police Hospital in Awka for treatment. A search of the man yielded no identification or mobile devices that could aid in identifying him or reaching his relatives.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the man may have been under the influence of drugs, but inquiries are ongoing. The police command emphasized the incident as a reminder of the risks associated with substance abuse, particularly among youth.
The Anambra State Police reiterated its commitment to combatting drug abuse, cultism, and other criminal activities through its Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices, which includes advocacy and collaboration with community stakeholders.
