Presidential campaign council list to be adjusted, not reviewed — Presidency
The Presidency clarified on Wednesday that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council list for the 2027 election will undergo necessary adjustments, but it has not been withdrawn or subjected to a complete review.
Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, addressed the issue during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily. His comments came in response to reports suggesting that the APC had rescinded the list amid controversy regarding the inclusion and exclusion of certain party leaders and political figures.
Dare emphasized that the list remains valid and noted that the party has yet to form all the subcommittees integral to its campaign structure. “As is standard with such lists, there is room for subcommittees. Those subcommittees have not been formed, so many other names will be incorporated into that structure,” he explained.
He reiterated that the list has not been withdrawn, referencing a statement issued by the APC on Tuesday that affirmed its validity. “The list stands, but of course, there will be adjustments. It is not cast in stone, similar to other lists,” he added.
The APC had announced the campaign council list over the weekend, designating President Tinubu as chairman, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda serving as vice chairmen. Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator Abdul’aziz Yari was appointed as Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was named secretary.
When questioned about the possibility of the list being open to review, Dare rejected that term, instead referring to the forthcoming changes as adjustments. “Not a review, just adjustments where necessary,” he said.
Upon further inquiry regarding his choice of wording and potential implications about the list being reconsidered, Dare maintained that the anticipated modifications would not amount to a comprehensive overhaul. “Review is wholesale; this is not wholesale,” he said.
He further elaborated that the establishment of additional subcommittees would allow for increased participation from party members and political stakeholders in the campaign’s organizational framework.
